2024-11-03 Empires: Age of Discovery

So, after quite some time since the last one, I finally got a chance to host a board game session this weekend and was picking a game for our play group to play...

After considering a dozen or so options (as I always do: something we recently played or something we haven't played in a while (or even not at all yet)? something longer / heavier or something shorter / medium complexity? and then factoring in how the narrowed-down choices would accommodate the number of players, etc, etc), I finally settled on the "Empires: Age of Discovery" - we haven't yet played it with this particular group, it's been a long time since I played it last time (I couldn't even remember when that was), but I remember it being a very enjoyable game that is supposed to work well for larger player counts (and we got 4 players this time around).

When it was time to set the game up on the table, I tried to find a picture of the table layout from the last play (as I always do to see if I can re-use it instead of figuring it out from scratch) and was amazed to discover that the last time I played "Empires: Age of Discovery" was exactly 6 years ago (in 2018) on this very same day - November, 3rd! Just how crazy of a coincidence is that?

Anyways, we really had a lot of fun playing it this time (and I am glad I opted for it b/c it worked really well for the group and the player count): it was a very dynamic and competitive match, and a rather close one, too - the intrigue was kept till the very last round of the game! In fact, everyone liked it so much they requested to play it again next time we gather :)
